Slashing Myths on Solana, Debunked

One of the most common questions from newcomers: 'What happens if my validator misbehaves?' On Ethereum, slashing is a core mechanic. On Solana today, there is no automatic on-chain slashing for standard stake accounts.

That doesn't mean zero risk. Poorly performing validators simply earn fewer rewards — your opportunity cost is underperformance, not principal loss.

Coming changes

SIMD proposals under discussion would introduce economic penalties for provable equivocation. When implemented, these will be narrow in scope and capped — designed to punish attacks, not honest downtime.

The practical takeaway: diversify across a handful of high-uptime validators and treat commission changes as the main thing worth monitoring.
